Letter: Columnists off-base

To the editor:

Put Charles Krauthammer and Trudy Rubin in charge of foreign policy and they would have us neck deep in Middle East war and in the Ukraine as well — wars we could not possibly win. They also know that there is zero chance that the American public would be in favor of either.

In the end, the people in the Ukraine will decide their own fate and Syria will continue until hell freezes over no matter what we do. We are not a paramount power in this world today nor should we be. In fact, having American troops in 150 different countries in the world, as we do now, is unaffordable and most should be returned to the U.S.

Afghanistan and Pakistan will never change appreciably no matter how many American troops are there. This has been true as long as these nations have existed and it will always be a struggle by internal groups in both these nations for control. At least they will be heavily engaged killing each other instead of our troops.

These columnists are just doing their very best to charge President Obama with being as inadequate as Bush Jr. Forget about it. On his worst day, Obama was head and shoulders ahead of Bush on his best day.
