To the editor:

I feel I need to defend my good name. David W. Guth tweeted a controversial message last week about the NRA. I have received many phone calls from TV stations, newspapers, and private individuals regarding that tweet. I defend the freedom of speech but, just because you have the right to say whatever you want, does not mean you should. I would never want to say hurtful words to anyone.

Please know that I am David C. Guth (rhymes with Ruth), a professor of chemistry at Johnson County Community College, and not David W. Guth. We are not related. My phone number is in the Lawrence phone book, and his is not. Please don’t call and voice your opinion of me on my answering machine.
