Free State High’s football team maintained its No. 3 spot in this week’s Kpreps.com Class 6A rankings.

The Firebirds (2-0) recovered from a scoreless first half Friday at Shawnee Mission Northwest to win, 20-3, and their competition gets tougher this week, when they play host to Olathe East (1-1).

Rounding out 6A’s top five are: No. 1 Shawnee Mission West (2-0), No. 2 Hutchinson (2-0), No. 4 Derby (1-1) and No. 5 Maize (2-0).

Area teams Eudora (No. 3, 2-0) and Baldwin (No. 4, 2-0) both reside in Kpreps.com’s 4A top five, which ranks Holton (2-0) No. 1, Andale (2-0) No. 2 and Buhler (2-0) No. 5.
