Letter: A little voice

To the editor:

I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family and I’ve seen first-hand how that brand of religion can disable the mind and shrivel the soul. I was appalled to see it again in Carl Burkhead’s anti-gay letter in Wednesday’s Public Forum. When I think of all the fine gay people there are in the world, I keep coming back to the conclusion that Christians like Burkhead have a little voice inside of them saying, “You’re not good enough.”

All three Monotheistic religions have doctrines against homosexual behavior, but there is the thought that we should hate the sin but not the sinner and become tolerant. What is bothering Mr.Carl Burkhead is that he wants everyone to follow his brand of religion and they are not. It is good that we have our own consciences that dictate to each of us the rights and wrongs we must follow. Without it, we might become closed minded, intolerant and insufferable.
