To the editor:

On Monday, I accompanied my high school senior daughter to Kansas University for Senior Day. The campus tour allowed me to view the beautiful, historic buildings bustling with students.

Ironically, touring the campus brought to mind the news of the last couple of days involving our Legislature. First was their conclusion that university spending should be reduced. That was followed by the university being commissioned to provide a detailed report of every building on campus to facilitate the concealed carrying of firearms.

Allowing students, faculty and administrators to openly carry firearms on campus is just a plain bad idea. It’s a shame that in one breath our leaders are challenging the Board of Regents about reducing expenses and, with the other, requiring expensive, non-value-added requirements to support their ill-conceived legislation.
