Letter: No compassion?

November 20, 2013

To the editor:

Is there a single existing social program for needy families and especially children living in poverty that Sam Brownback does not hate? He seems relentless in starving them of funds and sending the message that they are not worthy of help.

Worse, this Republican Legislature is a virtual rubber stamp for everything he proposes. What have these poor done that deserve such hatred and wrath from our elected officials? For shame. He cloaks this in proposals that are mostly underfunded and designed primarily to drain these social funds completely. Is the message “Get out of Kansas” or just “Drop Dead”? Brownback is an embarrassment to our state. He has gone beyond the lines of compassion and decency.

I'm continually amazed at those who write about the horrors of Brownback and this current state Legislation. For those of us who followed Brownback's career, his current actions as governor are not terribly surprising at all. The same is true for the current GOP Congressional members. They are who they are. They were all collectively voted in. They were all collectively bought and paid for by Koch Industries.

It's a mountain to climb, but they can be voted out. If you disagree with him and the GOP Congress, do your job as a citizen of this state - organize, give donations, volunteer, and vote for their opponents. It's that simple.

About school funding and Brownback's unorthodox thinking mechanism.

Did you just get that? From the beginning he wanted to use the funds for something other than helping the needy. His idea of stripping funding from education is totally backward and defeating for our children. Please, don't forget who he is next year and let's send him packing into another job outside of government.
