KU student arrested after fight sends Lawrence man to trauma center

A 21-year-old Kansas University student was arrested about 1 a.m. Friday after a fight at a local bar sent a Lawrence man to a Kansas City-area trauma center.

Alexander L. Pendleton, of Lost Creek Way, Texas, was arrested at Brothers Bar and Grill, 1105 Massachusetts St., after police responded to a disturbance there shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said. A 24-year-old Lawrence man had been knocked to the ground and beaten with elbows to the face. Pendleton was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and booked into Douglas County Jail.

The victim, whom police did not identify Friday, was transported to a Kansas City-area trauma center with significant facial injuries, McKinley said. Police believed the injuries were not life-threatening.

Douglas County prosecutors charged Pendleton with aggravated battery Friday, and he was released from Douglas County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He next appears in court May 23.
