Letter: An angry rant

To the editor:

Friends of my kids and kids of my friends finish school but can’t find jobs. Like 19th century London, you can’t breathe the air in Beijing. We’ve taken a “low prices” time machine back to the 19th century. In China, rat meat is being sold as lamb. Do you know the story of the Triangle Shirt Waist fire? A clothing factory collapses in Bangladesh, killing at least 400 people.

But keep the cheap stuff coming, bottom line economics makes a few people a lot of money. Ignore the real cost, let’s close our eyes to the calculus of exploitation and pollution. What does it cost for each American who wants, but cannot find a job? Do you know people who want jobs but can’t find one? If you don’t you need to acquaint yourself with the 20- somethings.

We keep stuffing money and jobs into the Walmart pipeline while we elect Robertses, Morans and Huelskamps to protect ownership of machine guns, control female reproductive organs and use the floor of Congress to debate esoteric questions like whether gay people pose a threat to my 38-year marriage. We elect Brownbacks and Kobachs to pass laws they know violate our Constitution.

These distractions are not coincidence; they keep us angry, which keeps our minds off the massing of great fortunes on the backs of our unemployed children. You angry? So call this an angry rant, for a rant it is.
