Unseasonably cold weather and precipitation that is expected to turn into snow caused officials at Free State and Lawrence high schools to call off all sporting events for Thursday.

The City Showdown girls soccer game between the Lions and Firebirds will now be played Monday at LHS, with the varsity game at 3:30 p.m. and junior varsity to follow at 5.

Lawrence’s varsity and JV softball home games against Shawnee Mission North were postponed until May 10. An LHS varsity boys golf tournament at Olathe was moved to May 9 and a JV track meet at Gardner-Edgerton was canceled.

Free State’s JV track team had been slated to compete at Olathe North, but the meet was called off, too.

Additionally, Lawrence High has already postponed Friday night home games against Leavenworth. Those have been moved to May 9, and it will serve as the Lions’ Senior Night.
