Fire crews and police responded to a fire about 8:30 a.m. Friday at a house in the 1200 block of Connecticut Street, where smoke was seen pouring out of windows on the second and third floors.

The fire was extinguished by 8:50 a.m., and no injuries were reported. A resident left the house as fire crews arrived, and the Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants, according to a statement from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

On Monday, investigators determined the fire was caused by an accident involving a heat lamp. Damage was estimated at $36,000, according to a statement from Fire Medical Division Chief Eve Tolefree.
