Letter: Falling behind?

March 23, 2013

To the editor:

“China will do it.” This was the conclusion of the scientists at a recent National Science Foundation review panel for biological science, in response to the large number of excellent proposals that would not be funded because of our ever-reducing budget for research. Even some of the funded proposals send work to China because they have invested in science and research infrastructure that allows them to do work that we cannot do as quickly, easily or inexpensively.

While China is investing massively in higher education and research, our state is reducing our own higher education and research capacity. China knows they need those things to develop jobs and boost their economy for the 21st century. I do not know what our state leaders think they are building for the future good of our state. Our state motto might include “To the stars,” but it will not be investments from Kansas that put us there, or Kansans who will benefit from high-paying jobs in the new industries of this century. China will do it.

"Our state motto might include “To the stars,”"

More fully, it's "To the stars through difficulty." Our Guv and legislature are just providing the difficulty.

Why should we go to the start through difficulty when it's so easy to just simply pray for them and ask them for guidance?

Lot of projects go to China. Sam Brownback has been a supporter of allowing other nations to take our jobs because a few wealthy Americans tend to make a lot of money doing so.

Other than busting unions the rt wing Brownback party figure keeping large numbers of USA citizens UN-employed will also break the back of good wages America once cherished. The fewer jobs available the less Americans will work for out of desperation.

15 million white collar jobs are making their way to India. No job is safe.

Sam Brownback has also been a supporter a dumbing down America which is accomplished by cutting off spending for education. A rt wing policy for abut 33 years. Time voters and people who like having jobs pay more attention to politics and START VOTING.

Great letter. Brownback and company are only concerned with the short term gain of his buddies, not the long term health of our nation and state. But I bet he wears his flag pin.

The GOP is dead thanks to the ruthless corrupt practices of the Rt Wing Anti Women Libertarian Neocon Fundamentalist Tea Party for Economic Terrorism.

33 years in the making. It's gone and the Koch family of money, Wal-Mart family of money,Exxon-Mobil family of money,AMWAY family of money, the military industrial complex family of money and the hard rt wing fundamentalist christian family of money do NOT intend to give the GOP name back to anyone.
