Letter: Clear choice

March 22, 2013

To the editor:

What was once talked about quietly among friends has now come out for all to see. With the actions of the new political action committee, Lawrence United, a line has been drawn. Here are people who stand to profit from unlimited growth and easier access to decision-making, looking to elect three city commissioners who share their view. The three others running want sustainable and sensible growth that maintains our quality of life, and value all Lawrence voters. Lawrence United has made the choice on April 2 quite clear. Voters should say no to powerful forces trying to shape Lawrence for their own purposes.

It appears to me bigger spending than ever before will occur NOT necessarily providing points of interests that which can be verified. Or explain in detail how their "goals" will be achieved.

The most logical approach to achieve respectable change is not bring back people who have spent years in office either in elected or appointed positions. Riordan,Chestnut and Amyx have had their opportunity. Hats off to Amyx for not making the photo shoot.

This multi-colored flyer offers the same points that the other candidates are offering. The other candidates such as Scott Criqui and Leslie Soden also want a sustainable, vibrant and growing economy.

This new PAC allows a means by which to circumvent previous campaign spending regulations. And can put out rhetoric true or not for the candidates with or without their approval. This is very stinky politics.

This endorsement has made my choice easier. I will vote for the other 3 candidates. The sad thing is this group will be able to put their 3 flunkies in front of the public's eye more with their money, and we know that will influence too many voters who aren't informed about the issues.

Lawrence United was going to call itself Fritzel-pac, but thought it might be TOO obvious.

If you can't figure out how to do that, you have serious reading and researching problems.

I know who I'm voting for as well, and it likely includes two candidates endorsed By Lawrence United. But, I'm voting for them because I believe they are the best candidates not because of Lawrence United's endorsement. I would hope that is the way everyone arrives at a decision.

Well, guess who is the first person listed on Leslie Soden's contribution report? Donated $100.

Cromwell donated $100 too. Tom Harper who is a realtor for Stephens Real Estate also donated. Judy Paley, married to George Paley, donated as well.

You know what that means?

Katara 5 years, 1 month ago

Oh no. Folks, it is way worse than I thought.

Tobias Schlingensiepen donated $100 to her.

This means outside influences are trying to infiltrate Lawrence politics!!!

Katara, You either have a wonderful sense of satire or a complete lack of proportion and common sense. To compare a $5000 donation from Mr. Penny, a man with a monetary interest in big time growth in Lawrence to Tom Harper's (a dedicated preservationist and someone active in his neighborhood) $100 is a brilliant example of false equivalence. Then the Tobias comment convinced me you should be writing for the Onion.
