Author Edwidge Danticat, whose books include “Breath, Eyes, Memory” and “Brother, I’m Dying,” will speak at Kansas University next week.

The talk will be the final installment of the Hall Center for the Humanities 2012-13 Humanities Lecture Series, and it will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Woodruff Auditorium at the Kansas Union. It will be free and open to the public.

The talk will be followed by an informal question-and-answer session at 10 a.m. March 14, in the conference hall at the Hall Center for the Humanities. That session is also free to attend.

In 2009 Danticat won a MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship. She has also won an American Book Award and a National Book Critics Circle Award for her books, which also include “Krik? Krak!” and “The Dew Breaker.”

Danticat was born in Haiti and moved to the United States when she was 12.

In Wednesday’s talk, Danticat will read from and provide commentary on her newest book, “Claire of the Sea Light,” due to be released this summer, according to a KU release.
