To the editor:

I direct my comments to our city commissioners. Please do NOT sign the rec center agreement today. What’s the big hurry? New and questionable details about this deal are coming to light every week. There’s no end of ways the public could lose its shirt in this deal in the long run.  Our gung-ho commissioners are nice folks, but they’re babes in the woods next to the wheeler-dealers, aka “philanthropists.”

I can only imagine future Journal-World headlines that reveal with sickening clarity how this commission (not you, Mr. Amyx) hobbled our treasury with endless annual upkeep costs and other unforeseen expenses. Please don’t sign away $2.3 million(!!) just for preliminary fees, drawings and digging when you may realize in a few months that this whole thing was a huge mistake.
