To the editor:

I do understand why the Kansas ultraconsrvative politicians’ whole purpose in life is to support the big money country club fat cats. What I don’t understand is why Kansas residents continue to vote for them. Do the people believe that corporate executives should be given a free pass while common Kansans who work for a living pay all the taxes?

One of the most blatant examples of our elected representatives’ commitment to the top 1 percent came during the president’s State of the Union Address. He said that he wanted to confront the problems of equal pay for equal work for women and step up efforts to stop domestic abuse. After he made those statements, the camera focused on our 2nd District congresswoman. She scrunched up her face and shook her head, “no.” (She appears about 34 minutes into the State of the Union video posted on nytimes.com.) I found it impossible to believe, but then I remembered who she was and what she stood for. Her puppet masters do not want to give equal pay to women and couldn’t care less about domestic violence, therefore our congresswoman is against it.

Someone must be voting for these politicians. And you know the elections in Kansas must be fair and the votes counted properly; our secretary of state has that responsibility, the same secretary of state who is the primary consultant to write voter suppression legislation for the tea party states. Is that a scary thought or what?
