Lawrence Virtual School Principal Keith Wilson has named James "Monte" Westfall as the new assistant principal of the school.

Westfall succeeds Jana Lloyd, who resigned in May.

Westfall has been the performing arts coordinator in the Blue Valley school district the last three years. He has also worked in the Shawnee Mission, Kansas City, Kan., and Coppell, Texas, school districts.

Headquartered at Wakarusa Valley school, 1104 E. 1000 Road, the Lawrence Virtual School served 1,177 students from across the state in grades K-8 this year. It uses a web-based curriculum to deliver instruction online for students who work from home.

"LVS has the unique opportunity to truly individualize education to meet each student's needs and to ensure their success," Westfall said.
