To the editor:

I just want to thank the Journal-World for finally recognizing that a lot goes on in Lawrence other than sports. Your A&E section fills a void. I am particularly pleased with your coverage of the new Theatre Lawrence, which is, indeed, a wonderful addition to Lawrence. It’s great to have a space where we can look forward to reviews of plays, lectures and other activities which make Lawrence a vibrant community.

Now, let's see some good plays, with good plots, good acting and, above all, good writers that wrote them. We don't want to see fat girls looking for a date, or a musical with no direction. We want to see more like "Mockingbird" and "12 Angry Men". We want plays that mean something, not just entertain us for an hour or two. I don't mean just dramas. What about good comedy like Moliere, Sheridan, even the Greeks? What happened to Peter Schaefer and something by Shakespeare? This can all be done in the old place, think of what can happen in the new!

You have moved into a new facility, that means you have upscaled "the place where", now you must upscale the production its self. A lot can be done on that stage that means something to the community. I hope it begins now.
