Lawrence Parks and Recreation is bringing the tropics to Kansas at "Beach Bash," its summer kickoff party Thursday at the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky Street, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Pool guests can bring grass skirts along with their sunscreen and floaties to learn hula dancing from Kainey Teel with Aloha Pumehana Polynesian Dancers from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
After, the African Drumming Ensemble will perform an interactive show from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Extra drums will be provided for kids to join in.
In addition to the performances, children can create sand-art necklaces, decorate beach balls and play games.
Daily pool admission will be charged to Beach Bash attendees.
