Paul Steiger, an editor who worked for the Wall Street Journal and the nonprofit news group ProPublica, will be the recipient of the 2014 William Allen White Foundation National Citation at Kansas University in February.
Steiger will receive the honor and give a talk at the Kansas Union on Feb. 7. The KU School of Journalism will release more details as his visit approaches.
Steiger was the Wall Street Journal’s managing editor from 1991 to 2007 and then founded ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative news organization. He was its editor-in-chief and CEO from 2008 to 2012, after which he stepped down and became its executive chairman.
The citation is awarded each year by the trustees of the William Allen White Foundation, which was established in honor of the famous publisher of the Emporia Gazette to support journalism at KU and elsewhere.
