Dad Days event offers activities for families this weekend

Just in time for Father’s Day, families can celebrate fatherhood with food, fun and free film screenings this weekend at a series of events sponsored by Dads of Douglas County, a local nonprofit promoting father involvement.

Dad Days will begin Friday at The Oread Hotel from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a screening of “Absent,” a documentary about fatherlessness. A panel discussion will follow.

The festivities will continue Saturday with “Party in the Park,” a free event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live music, activities for children and food vendors in Watson Park.

Later, families can go to The Oread hotel from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday to build their own pizzas. Cost is $7 to $10 per pizza, depending on size and toppings. Afterward, “Unconditional,” a movie inspired by the life of Papa Joe Bradford, founder of Elijah’s Hope Ministry, will be shown for free from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.
