To the editor:

How many more pedestrian/bicycle accidents might happen at 27th Street/Wakarusa Drive and the bypass? The alarming, tragic death of a bicyclist hit by a vehicle was just last week. It can happen again.

As a dog-walker/bicyclist, this is a most dangerous intersection, frightening to cross. Should Lawrence really have a major bike path crossing a high-speed trafficway at grade level? Even though expensive, we really must correct this intersection, perhaps with an over/underpass for either pedestrians/bicyclists, or the traffic. The lone stoplight on this 65 mph trafficway is difficult to see with sunup and sundown glare aiming down the road ahead.

Let’s hear the voices of bicyclists and walkers in Lawrence, crying out for safety on this popular path. Help, traffic planners! Let’s remedy this mistake.
