LHS wrestling sixth at Husky Invite

? Lawrence High wrestling placed sixth at the Husky Invite Saturday at Blue Valley Northwest with 126.5 points. Manhattan (194) edged Newton (189) to win the tournament.

Andrew Denning won the 182-pound title, pulling out a 6-5 decision over Shawnee Mission South’s Rasheed Brady in the championship match after pinning Newton’s Noah Ornelas in the semifinal.

Caden Lynch took a major decision over Topeka High’s Briman Williams in the 138-pound semifinal, then lost a 4-3 decision to Blue Valley Northwest’s Jaquwan Stone in the championship match.

Alan Clothier pinned Blue Valley Northwest’s Jeremy Katz in the 170-pound semifinal before dropping a 10-3 decision to Newton’s Jared Langley in the title match.

Ryan Bellinger pinned Blue Valley’s Foster Hartman at the 4:56 mark in the 152-pound third-place match.

Garrett Girard at 126 pounds won a 9-4 decision over Olathe East’s Husayn Sultani in the fifth-place match. Alex Jones won an 11-3 major decision over Blue Valley Northwest’s Don Fowler in the 285-pound fifth-place match. Zavier Kenney at 106 pounds lost the fifth-place match by injury default to Newton’s Trevor Pryor.
