Lawrence man receives two life sentences for sex crimes against 6-year-old girl

A 39-year-old Lawrence man has received two life sentences for sex crimes in connection with a 2011 incident involving a 6-year-old girl.

Dean Oliver Tapedo was convicted in August 2012 of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy. Douglas County prosecutor Amy McGowan, a chief assistant district attorney, had accused Tapedo of sexually assaulting the girl in her bed in October 2011.

Douglas County District Judge Kay Huff sentenced Tapedo Friday morning to two life sentences to run concurrently. Each of the two charges carried a sentence of 25 years to life, triggered by Jessica’s Law.
