Lawrence man held on $30,000 bond, charged with aggravated robbery

A 20-year-old Lawrence man remained in Douglas County Jail Wednesday after being charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

Douglas County prosecutors charged Robert Richard Steffey Bernstein Wednesday in connection with an incident reported to police on Oct. 19, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman. A resident had reported to police being attacked by a man with a crowbar who forced his way into the resident’s home and stole money and drugs.

Police identified Bernstein as a suspect soon after the incident, McKinley said, but could not locate him immediately. Lawrence police investigators arrested Bernstein Tuesday after he was located by officers on patrol.

Bond was set Wednesday at $30,000.
