How to Help: Ballard Center needs additional support on Friday afternoons
Ballard Community Services is seeking a volunteer to work at its North Lawrence location on Friday afternoons. Shifts will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This volunteer will greet clients and assist them in the accessing Ballard’s food pantry, and also offer assistance with other community resources. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old, with good communication skills and an ability to work positively with people of all backgrounds and life circumstances. Other immediate needs
• The Salvation Army needs volunteers to prepare meals, serve and clean up for its feeding program on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, running from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program serves the homeless and low-income residents of Lawrence at the shelter in downtown Lawrence, 946 New Hampshire St. There are also opportunities to help with music programs for kids ages 7 to 16 on Tuesday evenings. Volunteers may fill out an application online at myvolunteerpage.com and should be 18 years or older, unless accompanied by an adult. • Cat companions and dog walkers are needed at the Lawrence Humane Society. The cats need love and attention to keep them happy, and the sheltered kittens need to learn good play skills. All of the dogs at the humane society need exercise and socialization. Cat companions need to be at least 13 years of age and need to attend a volunteer information session. Dog walkers are required to be 16 years old and to attend volunteer orientation and a separately scheduled training session. The humane society would like dog walkers to be able to commit at least two hours a week for six months.
