Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. DCABA U8: Lawrence Parks & Recreation is taking team deposits for the DCABA competitive U8 divisions (coach-pitch and machine-pitch). Registration information is available at www.lprd.org. Eudora baseball, softball: The Eudora Amateur Baseball and Softball Association has begun its 2013 registration period. The EABSA offers coed T-ball, softball and baseball for ages 5 to 14 years old in a recreational, learning environment. Registration is open until March 1, online at www.eabsa.com or www.eudorabaseball.com. Practices will begin April 1 and games begin May 6 through July 4.

Trail Hawks race: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the third-annual “Pi Day” half-marathon and 5K at 8 a.m., March 10, on the Kansas River trail system. The Pi-Day River Rotation Half Marathon Trail Race begins and ends by the Kansas River Trails trailhead, just off Eight and Oak streets in North Lawrence. The race course is a winding, twisting, mostly smooth trail with a few roots and inclines sprinkled in. The half-marathon is a three-loop course, alternating between two approximately counter-clockwise loops and one clockwise. The 5K runners will race one 3.1-mile loop. Girls fast pitch: The registration deadline for Lawrence 8U machine pitch, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U girls fast pitch is April 1. Cost for 8U machine pitch is $65 per child; equipment will be provided. A coaches meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., April 18 at Holcom Park Rec Center. Scholarships are available at the Community Building 115 W. 11th Street by March 25. Cost for the other divisions is $900 per team, with a maximum of eight teams per league. There is a nonrefundable deposit of $100 to secure a spot in the league, with the remainder due at the coaches meeting at 6:30 p.m., April 16 at Holcom Park Rec center.
