Letter: City conflict?

To the editor:

With the situation surrounding the proposed Rock Chalk Park/community recreation center getting more confusing and suspect every day, it is time to re-evaluate the city’s role in this venture and ask some hard questions.

In light of that, I think it is essential that City Commissioner Carter recuse himself from this issue. As an employee of the Chamber of Commerce that has publicly come out strongly in favor of this plan, his vote would present, at the minimum, a suspicion of conflict of interest, if not a real one.

It may be time for the city to go back to the original plan of a community rec center near Free State High School and allow KU Endowment and Fritzel to go their own way.
