Letter: Easy explanation

To the editor:

Tom Moskow and many others have accused President Obama of lying when he said people could keep their health insurance plans after implementation of the Affordable Care Act. When insurance companies terminated plans, Obama was blamed, but the responsibility belongs to the insurance companies.

As Dean Baker of the Center for Economic and Policy Research has written, plans that existed when ACA was passed were grandfathered in. Most of the recently canceled plans were new ones that were offered after the legislation’s passage by companies that knew the new plans did not comply with the ACA and would soon be canceled.

Why this is too complicated for Obama to explain is a mystery to me.
