Arrest made in La Tiendita armed robbery

Detectives from the Lawrence Police Department arrested an individual Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at La Tiendita on Dec. 14, according to Trent McKinley, a police spokesman.

The suspect allegedly entered the grocery store, threatened the clerk with a firearm and fled with cash. Surveillance video from the store assisted in identifying the suspect.

Information led detectives to a location in Topeka where the suspect was arrested without incident. The suspect is to be booked into Douglas County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

McKinley said earlier this week that police believed the suspect who robbed La Tiendita was also connected to two other armed robberies, at Low Cost Tobacco Mart, 2104 W. 25th St., on Dec. 5 and an AutoZone, 2714 Iowa St., on Dec. 10.

In a statement Wednesday, McKinley said police were continuing to determine whether the arrested suspect was involved in the other two robberies.
