LMH hosting open house Tuesday to hear ideas for a wellness center

Lawrence Memorial Hospital leaders are looking for advice on what, if anything, residents would like to see in a proposed wellness center.

LMH officials will host an open house from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the hospital’s Conference Room A in the lower level near the atrium.

The event will be a chance for residents to provide comments to hospital administrators and consultants on what type of features or services would be useful in a wellness center.

City officials have reserved 7,000 square feet of space in the proposed $25 million recreation center in northwest Lawrence for a wellness center. LMH has been asked to operate the center, but the hospital hasn’t yet made a commitment to do so.

Janice Early, director of community relations for the hospital, said the hospital still is evaluating the feasibility of the idea, and also is open to locations other than at the recreation center.

Hospital board members are expected to make a decision on whether to move forward with the project sometime this summer.
