Lions’ Irick 4th at league tennis

? Lawrence High’s Thomas Irick placed fourth in No. 1 singles Thursday at the Sunflower League boys tennis tournament.

Free State took sixth place in the team standings, and Lawrence High was 10th in the 10-team tournament.

For Free State, Richard Lu placed seventh at No. 1 singles.

The Lions’ No. 1 doubles team of Austin Abbott and Christoph Brandt placed seventh, and the LHS No. 2 doubles team of Kley Bolivar and Adam Eudaly was 11th. Elliott Abromeit placed 11th in No. 2 singles.

“I was very pleased with Thomas’ play,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “In his first match, he was down 4-7 and came back and won 8-7 in a tiebreak. Overall, it was one of Thomas’ stronger showings this year. I was also pleased with my No. 1 doubles team. We were the ninth-seeded team and finished seventh.

For Free State, Josh Saathoff was sixth at No. 2 singles, Brandon Juracek and Miles Stevens placed sixth at No. 1 doubles, and Brady Clements and Antonio Schoeneich placed sixth at No. 2 doubles.
