Letter: Cooker control

To the editor:

I feel that our brave Kansas legislators should take their attention off of background checks for guns and focus on a much more pressing and dangerous issue: background checks for pressure cookers. As was demonstrated in Boston last week, pressure cookers can be used as deadly improvised explosive devises (IEDs). These dangerous devises took the lives of three, yes three, innocent individuals.

Think about how many pressure cookers there are in the state of Kansas. They could be turned into IEDs and used at the Kansas Relays or the Strong City Rodeo and kill five or six innocent Kansans. I feel that our legislators that are focused on the safety of their constituents should propose and promote legislation that would require background checks for the purchase or transfer of pressure cookers. How do we know if a well-meaning grandmother isn’t passing on her family’s pressure cooker to a terrorist granddaughter Who cares that 88 people a day are killed nationally every day by gun violence. Let’s stop those pressure cookers!
