Letter: Jayhawk woes

April 9, 2013

To the editor:

Kansas University’s last game should never have gone to overtime. Leading by 14 with less than seven minutes to play, they didn’t need a lot more points. They did need better ball-handling and decision-making, etc., and defense.

I’m still trying to figure out why they didn’t have KU’s best defender on their hotshot point guard after he made three or four shots early in the second half after making zero in the first half. Releford has been known as our stopper the last two years, and I concur. (He also had a 6-inch height advantage, and he has been a capable scorer as well.) I think he might have clamped down on Burke a few times, and just one stop would have deemed overtime unnecessary. Ditto for one more made free throw.

Getting the ball across the midcourt in time also helps. McGary (25 points, 14 rebounds and three steals) seemed too much for KU to cope with also. Michigan also had their share of problems, but it was theirs to worry about, not KU’s.

Sometimes we tend to forget that other teams like to win, too.

Kansas had a very, very good season. Had over 30 wins, tied the Big 12 Conference season championship and won the Big 12 Tournament. KU beat their primary rival 3 times, twice by double digits. KU won a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and earned the right to play close to home in the Sprint Center. They made it to the Sweet 16 and lost to a very good Michigan team. At Kansas, we expect them to go all the way every year. Just wasn't meant to be. Again, very good season.

Jumping Jayhawk Jesus, move on already! We went head to head over a three minute span with our team versus the consensus national player of the year, and he beat us, pretty much by himself. He was great, they were a good team, and they won. We were in the championship game last year; we won it all five years ago. We'll have a fun new team to watch develop next season.

If you think that we Jayhawks have woes, then I equate you to the spoiled, rich 16 year old who's pissed off because daddy bought them the Cadillac instead of the BMW sportster.

Every April several head coaching jobs become available in Division I basketball. Have you polished up your resume, Delbert?

No, I didn't think so.

Oh for crying out loud! It's over, ok!? Get a life. It's a game. It's a game. It's a game! Is your whole miserable existence contingent upon the outcome of a college basketball game? LJW - enough with the "KU should have won!" letters, already.

We're talking about a game?! I mean we're talking about a game! A game! We're talking about a game! Al la that big time basketball player talking about practice. (thanks rtwngr for starting the flash back).

I blame Tyshawn Taylor. If he had refused to give up #15 maybe that point-shaving Vegas native would have gone to a different school.

And in other news, the North Koreans may be preparing to launch a nuclear missile.

Seriously, you wrote a letter to the editor over a basketball game? Of all the things you could have wrote about, that was at the top of your list?
