Three-day auto swap meet opens May 3

Antique auto enthusiasts will be coming to Lawrence from all over the country in the first weekend of May, looking to buy and sell hard-to-find parts and accessories.

The swap meet, organized by the Lawrence Region Antique Automobile Club of America, will be held at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds from May 3 to May 5. On Friday, the fairgrounds will open at 1 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. The fairgounds will be open on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. Admission will be free, but parking will cost $5.

The swap meet will celebrate its 50th anniversary with door prizes, giveaways and a birthday cake.

The 2014 swap meet will be held in Lawrence from May 2 to May 4.

Given the high number of car deaths and the recent "massacre" in West Virginia, will a 3 day waiting period be in effect for this 3 day event?

I've been to several of these swap meets before and they were terrific. Great array of old cars and auto parts you can'tusually find anywhere. A fun time!
