Work on Kansas River bridges in downtown Lawrence to begin next week

A construction project that will affect traffic on the Kansas River bridges in downtown Lawrence has been delayed a week.

Work to paint and repair the underside of the two bridges will now begin on Monday, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The project is scheduled to reduce traffic to one lane in each direction during the length of the project, and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. Work is expected to last into mid-May.

The project was scheduled to begin this week but was delayed because wet weather is in the forecast.
