Goddard ? Richard Lu went 4-1 and placed second in singles to pace Free State High’s tennis team to a fifth-place finish at the John Markham Spring Classic on Saturday.

Lu’s only loss was an 8-1 setback to Wichita Independent’s Jake Norman in the championship match.

Free State’s Josh Saathoff went 3-2 and placed 13th.

In doubles, Brandon Juracek and Jonathan Miles Stevens went 3-2 and placed 10th, and Braden Clements and Antonio Schoneich went 3-2 and placed 21st.

Blue Valley West won the team title with 110 and was followed by McPherson (109), Wichita Independent (108), Salina Central (108) and Free State (101).
