Westbound traffic at the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Inverness Drive was blocked Thursday afternoon while police responded to a rollover accident.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., when a westbound Chevy Trailblazer driven by an 18-year-old Topeka man failed to stop for a red light, said Sgt. Trent McKinley. The Trailblazer struck a northbound minivan and rolled on its side.

The driver of the Trailblazer was not injured, McKinley said, but he was extricated from the vehicle by a Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crew and cited by police for the traffic infraction.

Police were reopening the intersection at 5:30 p.m.

Accident implies that it was not intentional.

Well, gosh, we have no idea why he ran the red light. Let's wait for all the facts to come in. Maybe his accelerator was stuck. Maybe he had some sort of medical malady. And it was just an accident and was no one's fault. Now if a pedestrian had been involved, even one crossing in the crosswalk with the light, somehow the pedestrian would be to blame because they really should have actually paid more attention since their own safety was at stake. Prayers to the driver.
