Olathe — Free State volleyball went 1-1 while Lawrence High lost both its matches on Thursday at the Olathe East triangular.
The Firebirds lost to host Olathe East, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25, before defeating the Lions, 25-20, 25-19. LHS then lost to O-East, 7-25, 19-25.
Free State coach Nancy Hopkins credited Morgan Knapp’s blocking and Shelby Holmes for her work on offense.
Caitlin Broadwell led Lawrence High with eight kills and had eight digs in teaming with Monica Howard (six kills, 10 digs), Brea May (16 assists, eight digs) and Zoe Reed (12 digs).
The Lions (9-6) host a tournament at Lawrence High on Saturday.
The Firebirds (17-6) will host a triangular on Oct. 4 with Leavenworth and Shawnee Mission West.
