Libya answers

September 18, 2012

To the editor:

Columnist Trudy Rubin asks the same question Secretary Clinton asked, “How could this happen in Libya?” She then gives the State Department response. But Miss Rubin misses three reasons.

First, the men who killed our ambassador are wicked, and they hate us and all things and people American. Until the State Department admits this, they will continue to make bad decisions about Islamic terrorists.

Second, the administration is weak. Bowing to Arab heads of state, setting withdrawal deadlines, and apologizing for America around the world is quite properly seen as weakness. Why should terrorists fear us?

Third, the president has made himself a target. For domestic political reasons he bragged about selecting targets for drone attacks and boasted of killing Osama Bin Laden.

It’s not a video about the prophet. It’s the drifting and weak foreign policy of this administration that produced the successful attacks in Libya and elsewhere. Yet more reasons for change in November.

First: You people are the American version of these radicals and until we put a lid on you the dissent in the region will only worsen. They are upset at us for our policies that favor us at their expense. If you can't figure out the problem, you can't find a solution. Thank God Obama has figured out the problems and his policies will lead to better relations in the regions.

Second: Nothing in your narrative has a shred of truth. You are simply parroting the propaganda that the right wing radicals have spent billions of dollars promoting. It works on you. All you can come up with to support your ridiculous comment is this propaganda. zero facts.

Third: I know you and your type have selective amnesia but where was your outrage at all the Bush regime when intelligence all but laid the entire 911 attack in his lap and he was still to stupid (or was it his hidden agenda) to prevent the attacks. You would think with all the manufactured lies and outrage you now direct at Obama over libya that 3000 americans must have been killed.

The Bush regimes entire existence was scaring people into thinking that the regime that allowed the worst attack on US soil in history were the only people who could protect us. His entire campaign was was based on lies about this. Now , you accuse Obama, who has a far better record of protecting us, of being weak because acknoeledges , not brags, about what he has actually done to protect us. The lte is nothing but radical americans doing their imitation radical muslims are doing.

Put a lid on you? Dissent should be silenced. What happened to the tolerant liberal?

The attacks in the Middle East, Iran's steady progress towards a nuke, the snubbing of Israel, Afghanistan in shambles, are all facts. Point out the "propoganda?"

Bush has nothing to do with whats going on today. Lets have it your way and assume and acknowledge his culpability / responsibility for intelligence failures that lead to 9/11. So what? This in no way mitigates Obama’s responsibility for today’s failed foreign policy. Cry baby BS. Wise up.

Oh, the tolerant liberal! Same old, same old. The facts hurt. Iran wants a nuke because the USA doesn't attack countries who have nukes. Israel can suck on a big fat "you know what". The USA spends more for the defense of Israel than the Israeli people do. WHY? A fairytale? Separation of church and state sounds good to me. Afghanistan has ALWAYS been a shambles and Bush put us there by allowing 9/11 to happen, i.e. bin laden determined to strike memo. SO WHAT!?!? War on Drugs? The Taliban wiped out the production of heroin from Afghanistan, which took a big bite out of international bankers laundry...Heroin production is facilitated by the USA now! Keep toeing the Fox news propaganda line, chubby. You and your ilk are the cry babies, full of B.S. Wise up and WAKE UP! We're all being played like pipes and drums.

"Thank God Obama has figured out the problems and his policies will lead to better relations in the regions."

Perhaps you haven't read a newspaper or seen the news, but the last time I looked embassies in at least five countries have been attacked. And maybe on your planet the murder of an ambassador (which hasn't happened since that other worthless idiot Carter was in the White House) is considered "better relations". And I'm sure the pictures AFP just published of Obama being burned in effigy must be because he was mistaken for George Bush.

Luckily, most of the voters in this country don't share your psychosis.

(BTW, Spanky, speaking of selectivemmemory, who was the president when the 911 terrorists were not only forming their plan, but were already here taking flying lessons?)

Your statement about Muslims is untrue and offensive, SageonPage. There are thousands upon thousands of American Muslims who are loyal to our country, beginning with Hillary Clinton's aide, whom you have libeled. Many Muslims around the world admire the US. Most Muslims around the world reject terrorist acts that pervert their religion.

Turkey. Tajikistan. Azerbaijan. Kazakhstan. Morocco. Bangladesh. Indonesia. Bosnia. Kirgizstan. Jordan. Kosovo. Cyprus. United Arab Emirates. Turkmenistan. With an American flag and an American passport. Your paranoia about Islam and Muslims just impoverishes your own life, SageonPage.

I have been on vacation in many of them, SP. I have been to Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Syria (before the revolution), Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan (although the last two aren't ME countries, I spent 7 months in Turkey, and enjoyed Saudi Arabia except for the heat. I have been to mosques in each of these countries and never has a terrorist stood up and tried to recruit there. They are burried underground and they know that 99% of the Muslims of the world HATE them and want them gone. But most Muslims are poor, uneducated, underfed and don't know who the terrorists are unless they have been killed. Muslims do not condone killing of any kind unless it is self defense.

Not a valid source of information about Huma Abedin, SageonPage. Just another ultra-right-wing publication spouting libel.

On what basis do you presume that the statement of a single person during a time of hostilities is representative of what all Muslims, in all times and places, believe? Yes, some Muslims find religious justifications to make war and hope for a future in which all people acknowledge the truth of their faith, just as some Christians and some Jews and some Hindus and some Buddhists do. But that hardly means that Islam as a religion intends the violent domination of the world. Your contention that we ought to aim to eliminate Islam (which you don't even acknowledge to be a religion!) is even more offensive than the statement by the Dey of Algiers.

If you truly have read the Quran and the Islamic texts and still believe that Islam is a cult, you have a reading comprehension problem. I, too, have read, studied, taught Islam and have spoken at several Churches and Clubs and the same questions are always asked. But if you read the texts, there would be no question.

Second, I am sure you have no belief in God because that is all the Quran is about. What God wants and who God is. How can that be so offensive to you?

God guides whom He chooses to understanding. If He didn't choose you, I am sorry for you.

I've read the Quran and other Islamic texts; I've taken university courses; I've read widely about Islam and have even taught about it. Clearly, you haven't.

"They hate us more now than they did before."

I bet you said the same about your prom dates. What did you do about them?
