Lawrence soccer to host playoff opener

Free State opens on road

After a 10-5-1 regular season, Lawrence High’s boys soccer team enters the postseason as the No. 3 seed in Class 6A’s Central Regional 2 bracket.

That means the Lions open the playoffs at home, with a 7 p.m. Tuesday game at LHS against Topeka (5-8-3). Lawrence shut out Topeka, 6-0, on Aug. 28.

Free State (6-10), meanwhile, plays on the opposite side of the same regional bracket, and must open the playoffs on the road. The Firebirds play at Manhattan (11-4-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. FSHS did not face Manhattan in the regular season.

The winners of Tuesday’s games advance to the regional final on Thursday. The top remaining seed — No. 2 Manhattan, No. 3 Lawrence or No. 6 Topeka — will host the final. As the low seed, FSHS is guaranteed to play on the road again should it advance.
