If the volleyball teams from both Lawrence High and Free State want to advance to the state tournament, they will have to knock off some of Class 6A’s top-ranked teams.
Brackets for Saturday’s sub-state tournament at Gardner have the No. 7 seed Lions (16-17) facing host Gardner-Edgerton (32-6), the No. 2 seed in the bracket and the No. 2 team in 6A, according to the Kansas Volleyball Association’s latest rankings.
The Firebirds (26-10) received the No. 4 seed and will face Blue Valley West (21-10) in the sub-state semifinals. Like FSHS, BVW received votes in the final rankings of the regular season.
On Saturday in Uniontown, Bishop Seabury Academy (19-12) will be the No. 3 seed in a 2A bracket. The Seahawks will face Yates Center (15-21) in the first round.
