From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 11, 1972:
An error had been found this week in the compilation of final enrollment totals at Kansas University. New figures made available today show an increase of 28 students over last year, rather than the decline of 272 announced last week. The earlier report had caused some consternation about the status of funding from the Kansas Legislature for KU, leading to a hiring freeze for faculty and staff. The missing students not included in the original totals were all part-time students. Perhaps defending against a misconception of "computer error," Paul Wolfe, director of the KU Computation Center, declared today that they had "produced totals based on the enrollment cut-off date.... I can say that we produced information based on the data we have been given.... If we don't have the data on students, they won't be included in the enrollment report."
