Lawrence man pleads in 2007 robberies

A 24-year-old Lawrence man pleaded no contest to three robbery charges Thursday stemming from a series of armed robberies in Lawrence in 2007.

Mario O. Jordan had pleaded guilty to similar charges in 2008, and was sentenced to 59 months in prison. However, Jordan appealed his conviction based on ineffective assistance of counsel. A Douglas County district judge found in Jordan’s favor in 2011, and set aside the convictions.

Jordan pleaded Thursday to two counts of attempted aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated robbery. Jordan and another Topeka man — Javier Cox, 18 — were arrested November 2007 after robberies at two Kwik Shops. Cox has since pleaded guilty and received probation. Jordan remained in prison during the appeal, and is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 25.
