A few local high school athletes took advantage of the early signing period this week.
Free State senior Ashley Powers signed a national letter of intent Thursday to play volleyball with Graceland University, in Lamoni, Ia.
On Friday at Lawrence High, wrestling senior Hunter Haralson — the 2012 Class 6A state champion at 126 pounds, now ranked No. 1 at 132 pounds — signed with Lindenwood University, in St. Charles, Mo.
At Tonganoxie High on Friday, senior Jenny Whitledge signed with the Wichita State University volleyball program.
