Fundraising event planned for Lawrence man hurt in skydiving accident

November 8, 2012

Friends and family of Lawrence resident Jason Purinton, who was seriously injured in a skydiving accident on Labor Day weekend, are hosting a fundraiser to help pay for his medical and personal expenses.

Purinton broke a vertebra in his neck in three places, and although he is not paralyzed, he’s in pain and not sure when he will return to work.

The event is set for 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at The Eagles Club, 1803 W. Sixth St. It will include a silent auction, a raffle, a cash bar and live music by Sierra Band.

The cost — $20 for adults and $5 for children — includes food provided by Taco John’s, soft drinks, water and entertainment. All proceeds will go to the Jason Purinton Relief Fund.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the fund can do so at any US Bank location or mail a donation to Jason Purinton Relief Fund, US Bank, P.O. Box 428, Lawrence, KS 66044.

It's nice to see things like this happen when someone is hurt. I'm sure he feels blessed to have friends that would organize something like this. Hope they have a great turnout! I love Taco Johns

I feel bad for the guy, but he did choose to jump out of a plane..

I have also sky dived before, what a thrill, so peaceful and quit, guess I never even gave it a thought about getting hurt. Before you can jump you have to go through a lot of training, how to land, what to do if your chute don't open(, no don't look for a hay stack,) help pack your chute and etc, still was fun. Good luck on your recovery

I quit jumping over thirty years ago after going out 1312 times, so I do understand the attraction for it. I'm out of town but I hope a lot of folks show up for this.

Jumped one time back in the late 70's cuz this woman I was wooin' decided to go sky divin' & the chase went literal. Floated like a feather in the sky, the most peaceful thing ever. Never did catch her.

Best wishes to Jason.
