Letter: Disaster plan

To the editor:

Amending the constitution is an attempt to improve society. Someone wants to require a balanced budget; someone else has a definition of marriage. Constitutional amendments generally, and should, guarantee rights. I suggest an amendment that allows for more equitable elections and results during natural disasters or worse.

Will 30 million voters washed out by the next Sandy, earthquake or tsunami on Election Day settle for no voice in the Electoral College because their polling station didn’t exist any longer? What would have been the court ruling had the World Trade Center been attacked on Election Day? Voting and registration should be more conducive to participation.

I don’t think we have anyone in state government to advance the cause.
