Stay out of it

To the editor:

The governor is cutting out abortion and birth control money without proper legal procedure for votes among the pro-life groups and Catholic hospitals. This is why there should be separation of church and state. Neither the church nor the government should get into family planning unless they plan on bringing up the children as well.

Does the governor cut out tax money for Viagra or vasectomies? He cuts out SRS funding from the state budget even if the disabled are wards of the STATE.

Abortion clinics should not be targets for bombing either. Who needs terrorists? Poor or victimized women are victims of sex crimes or diseases. Isn’t this against the Roe vs. Wade law leaving the medical decision between the woman and her doctor? Is the governor breaking another law? Meanwhile, the media is pointing out how unfair the women of India or Pakistan are being treated.

I agree with the point of your letter, but don't jump the shark. Care to trade places with a woman in those countries?

Details? What involvement. They only thing he has done is required me to have insurance, which I do anyway. If you are one of those freeloaders who are too stupid to have your health care covered, I guess you should be mad. Get a job and buy some insurance, and quit expecting us to pay up if you get sick.

Hey, math. Are you still looking? How has Obama been more involved than any other president in people's lives? Those crickets sure are loud.

"The governor is cutting out abortion and birth control money ...[n]either the church nor the government should get into family planning..."

So what's the complaint? If the governor is cutting out abortion and birth control money, then the government is getting out of family planning. Seems to me you should be happy about it.

Yet, they are going to spend a bunch of money to "regulate" private abortion right out of business.

It takes two to tango. The men are just as responsible, yet these funding cuts and bills only affect the women. Sexist and definitely a war on women.

Get the church out of my government

Here's one: "The English and colonial experiences influenced the Founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Jefferson supported a high “wall of separation” between church and state and opposed religious interference with the affairs of government. Madison, conversely, opposed governmental interference with matters of religion. For Madison, the establishment of a national church differed from the Spanish Inquisition only in degree, and he vociferously attacked any legislation that would have led in this direction." http://civilrights.uslegal.com/religious-freedom/the-establishment-clause/history-behind-the-establishment-clause/

Since Madison "opposed governmental interference with matters of religion," and since Madison wrote most of the Constitution including the First Amendment (Jefferson was in France as US Ambassador when Congress passed it), it is reasonable to conclude that the primary purpose of the Establishment clause is to keep the government out of church.
