To the editor:

Talk about a crazy law! Orscheln Farm and Home no longer able to sell chicks because it doesn’t provide 10 square feet of space per chick? Nuts!

Every year I buy healthy baby chicks at Orscheln’s, bring them home and put them in a small cage with a heat lamp. Yes, they’re in close quarters, but they have to be when they’re young in order to stay warm and survive. At six weeks I move them out to an enclosed barn stall to grow a little more before they get to enjoy the good life: free ranging, eating bugs and hanging out with the grandkids.

The 10 square feet per chicken law might work for full-grown chickens living in the city limits, but it makes no sense for a farm supply store selling baby chicks. It needs to be changed before next chick season. I want Chick Days back!
