Blessed with art

To the editor:

Two exceptional recent performances in Lawrence deserve special mention.

We are so blessed to live in a community where almost daily there are great choices of many artistic events. Last week at the Lied Center the Kansas University Symphony Orchestra, choirs and voice students presented an evening of opera highlights that was spectacular. The concert, directed by David Neely, was repeated the next night at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo. The week before, under the direction of Steve Eubank, the Lawrence Civic Choir delivered a fantastic performance of Carl Orff’s rich and powerful “Carmina Burana” at the Lawrence Free Methodist Church.

Both of these evenings will be remembered for a long time.
