Santa Fe Depot to host Train Day celebration May 12

The Santa Fe Station Depot Redux will have a celebration for Amtrak’s National Train Day from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 at the depot, 413 E. Seventh St. It’s the third annual Train Day event. The day, celebrated the Saturday closest to May 10, marks the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869.

Larry Wright, who worked for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1956 to 1995, will give a talk at the event beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be a door prize of two round-trip Amtrak tickets to Chicago or St. Louis for attendees. Registration for the prize begins at 3 p.m., and participants must be present to win.
